Celebrate Recovery
If you haven’t already heard February 25 through March 3, 2018, is National Eating Disorder Awareness Week. As most of you probably know, NEDA is close to my heart because of my own personal experience with eating disorders and recovery. It is something that has plagued me in my past and presently my daughter is in recovery for ARFID (avoidant restrictive food intake disorder) and struggling through her recovery. 30 million Americans struggle with full-blown eating disorders and millions more battle with food and body image issues.
Take some time to research how your community is educating and celebrating children, women, and men from all paths of life. Help break through toxic values on body-esteem and self-esteem. Celebrate with other families who are in recovery and remember we all matter. Let’s join the conversation and help raise awareness and support our community in healing.
So, local Rochester peeps! Here is the line-up:
Sunday, February 25th from 2-5pm: The Little Theater will be showing “The Illusionists” followed by a panel discussion on the adverse impacts of societal values.
Wednesday, February 28th “Meet and Greet” 5:30- 7 pm at SON. Meet our Western New York Comprehensive Care Center for Eating Disorders (WNYCCCED)
Friday, March 2nd from 8 am to 12 pm at SON there will be a conference on Utilizing Sensitivity in the Treatment of LGBTIQ individuals with Eating Disorders featuring Dr. Brandi Baumkirchner.
Annual advocacy event is Saturday, March 3rd 2-5pm at Boulder Coffee on Alexander Street.
All events are free and open to all. So come and help me bust through body image stereotypes! Together we can make a difference.
Truly,
Maggie
PS Please reach out if you need support or know of anyone who does!
