Honoring You
I could talk to you about Springtime and how excited I am for the flowers that are blooming, but there is something way more important. I want to take this moment to honor and acknowledge all mothers, step-mothers, grandparents, and caregivers, and to say thank you for being who you are.
I could sugar coat mothering, but the truth is, we all have many different circumstances and emotions that we encounter as we continually are challenged through uncharted territories as caregivers. You always hear “Mothering is the hardest job”, which I understand but what I would say is even more challenging is….
finding and growing yourself through mothering is the hardest job
We tend to sacrifice so much of who we are as mothers without realizing it. We don’t praise all of our strengths, including the ones we judge as bad. Let’s end the cycle of judgement and acknowledge all of our qualities that we have brought into our mothering.
I want to honor you for:
- Going through childbirth, adoption, or saying yes to supporting a child
- Giving up your body to breastfeed or making the decision to use formula
- Waking up 4 times a night to care for your child and thinking that you can’t do it but finding the will to do so
- Losing your temper and feeling guilty for it
- Feeling lost and missing parts of your identity that have been put on the back shelve
- Not knowing what to do and feeling all alone
- Forgiving yourself for not showing up as well as you could have in certain situations
- Accepting your relationship with your child or Mother when they have not made the most skilled choices
- Standing strong in the face of judgment from others
- Taking moments out of your life to give back and to nurture you
- Embracing the totality of your children, caregivers, and parents
- Loving yourself through the amazing moments and the not so amazing
No matter what your experiences have been, No matter what your story is, you are exactly where you are for a reason.
It is time for you to honor your wholeness and love your past and present, knowing you have the ability to create the future. Step into your greatness and shine for the people around you. Your parents, your children, your family, and the world needs you. Step into your power and radiate your light, and thank yourself for being a fabulous mom.
